Shock Busters  |  Sustainable Testing & E-Waste Operations

Effective Date: 1st March 2025
Document Control: SB-ENV-001
Version: 2.2
Jurisdiction: NSW  |  ACT  |  QLD

1. Environmental Commitment

At Shock Busters, we are committed to minimizing the environmental impact of our field operations across NSW, the ACT, and QLD. While delivering vital electrical safety (AS/NZS 3760), smoke alarm compliance (AS 3786 / NCC), and fire protection compliance (AS 1851), we actively integrate sustainable site practices, responsible e-waste recovery, and low-emission logistics into our everyday workflow.

2. Responsible Disposal & E-Waste Recovery

  • E-Waste & Smoke Alarm Diversion: Non-compliant electrical leads, damaged appliances, expired smoke alarm units, and electronic components isolated during testing are diverted from general landfill and processed through accredited Australian e-waste recyclers.
  • Battery & Power Cell Recycling: Lithium (10-year sealed) and 9V alkaline batteries removed from photoelectric smoke alarms, emergency exit signs, and portable equipment are collected for specialized chemical recycling.
  • Fire Equipment Stewardship: Decommissioned fire extinguishers and fire blankets are disposed of in accordance with EPA guidelines through accredited supply partners such as FlameStop Australia, ensuring steel cylinders, brass valves, and extinguishing agents are reclaimed safely.
  • Hazardous Material Protocols: Legacy chemical agents, fluorinated foam residues (AFFF/PFAS), and specialized fire suppressants are recovered, contained, and processed directly through FlameStop Australia and licensed environmental remediation facilities to ensure zero runoff into local watersheds.

3. Sustainable Field Operations & Supply Chain

  • Eco-Friendly Tagging & Hardware: We utilize high-durability compliance tags designed to resist harsh Australian environmental conditions, reducing microplastic degradation and re-tagging frequency.
  • Paperless Compliance Reporting: We operate a 100% digital asset management system. Smoke alarm compliance certificates, electrical asset registers, and invoices are generated electronically to eliminate paper waste.
  • Route Optimization: Mobile technician runs are grouped geographically across regional and metropolitan routes to reduce total fuel consumption and fleet carbon emissions.
  • Sustainable Procurement: Replacement smoke detectors, fire safety hardware, and electrical fittings are sourced through trusted industry partners such as FlameStop Australia, prioritizing minimal commercial packaging, energy efficiency, and recyclable materials.

4. Continuous Improvement

Shock Busters regularly reviews its operational workflows to adopt cleaner testing technologies, partner with local environmental programs, and help commercial clients achieve their own corporate sustainability goals.
