And Southern NSW (Goulburn, Collector, Marulan, Yass, Canberra).

Why Test & Tag Matters

According to Safe Work NSW, more than 1,000 workplace electrical incidents and nearly 600 injuries from electric shock have been reported since 2020. In the construction industry, electric shock remains a leading cause of fatalities in New South Wales.

Routine testing and tagging isn’t just best practice – it’s critical. It helps you stay compliant with AS/NZS 3760:2022 and avoid the risks of faulty or damaged appliances

What is Electrical Test and Tag?

Test and Tag is a straightforward but essential process designed to ensure your portable electrical appliances are safe, reliable, and compliant with current Australian standards.

The process involves two main steps:

  • Visual Inspection – Each appliance or lead is carefully examined for visible signs of wear, damage, fraying, or any defects that could compromise safety. This step helps identify issues that might not show up during electrical testing alone.

  • Electrical Testing – Using certified Portable Appliance Testing (PAT) equipment, we assess the internal safety and performance of the item, checking for faults such as insulation breakdown or earth leakage.

Once testing is complete and the item is deemed safe, it’s fitted with a durable tag. This tag contains key information, including:

  • The date of testing

  • The next due date for retesting

  • The technician’s identification

This tag serves as a clear, visual record that the item has passed inspection and is safe to use. It also provides proof of compliance during WHS audits or workplace safety checks.

By catching faults early, Test and Tag significantly reduces the risk of electric shock, equipment failure, or fire—helping you maintain a safer workplace and meet your obligations under AS/NZS 3760:2022.

Who Needs Electrical Test & Tag?

If your business uses or supplies electrical equipment, regular Electrical Test and Tag services are not only a smart safety measure – they’re often a legal requirement under WHS regulations. This is particularly important in environments where equipment is moved frequently, exposed to wear and tear, or used by multiple people.

Regular testing helps prevent electrical faults, reduces the risk of injury, and ensures you’re meeting your duty of care to staff, customers, and site visitors.

This applies to a wide range of industries and settings, including:

  • Construction sites and trades – High-risk, fast-paced environments where equipment is constantly relocated

  • Offices and commercial spaces – Everyday appliances like kettles, monitors and extension leads still require testing

  • Hospitality and retail – Venues with high foot traffic and frequent equipment use

  • Cleaning services and equipment hire – Gear that’s transported and used across different sites

  • Factories, warehouses and workshops – Heavy-duty tools and machinery that face regular wear

  • Schools, childcare, and aged care facilities – Environments where safety is critical and equipment is used by vulnerable people

  • Event operators and mobile businesses – Temporary setups, generators, and portable tools used on-the-go

Testing Frequency Guidelines

How often your equipment needs testing depends on the work environment and how the gear is used:

Every 3 months – High-risk settings like construction sites or anywhere gear is constantly moved

Every 6 months – Industrial areas such as factories and production floors

Every 12 months – Office spaces, kitchens, meeting rooms, and places where cables might be bent or stressed over time

Not sure what applies to your business? We’ll assess your needs and make sure you’re covered.
